SPB_100_Logo copyWe’re celebrating the Schenectady Pipe Band’s 100th Anniversary in 2017, along with our 40th year of presenting The Capital District Scottish Games.

This celebration is important because we have been representing piping, drumming, Scottish culture for many years in the Capital Region, and continue to perform and present the Games.

We want to raise $50,000.  We are excited to bring the SPB back to a competitive Grade 2 band over the next few years.  This will require a concerted effort in recruitment and instruction.  The Games are an essential part of the identity as a band, and with secure funds to ensure their long-term success, they will be and integral part of the ultimate success of the Band.

The SPB has an impact on the Capital Region in many aspects.  Our traditional music is a spectacle that attract many colleges and universities to include us in their convocation, commencement and special events. Albany Medical College, Union College, Skidmore College, Albany College of Pharmacy, and Fulton County Community College are institutions that we have been invited to play for as many as 60 years!  We have played of Presidential and Gubernatorial inaugurations, a Military Tattoo at Stirling Castle in Scotland, and many community celebrations.

In addition, our presentation of the annual Capital District Scottish Games brings 1000 competitors (from as distant as Ireland, Scotland, Canada, Texas, British Columbia) and 10,000 spectators to Albany County on Labor Day weekend, resulting in a big boost in tourism in upstate New York.

We are also an educational organization, teaching students to play pipes and drums.  We have also contributed of $120,000 dollars to local children’s charities through our annual Scottish Games Charity Golf Tournament.
